Participation in 2020 Samsung C&T Construction Innovation Tech Fair
Under the theme of “Data-Driven Design by SAMOO,” SAMOO participated in 2020 Samsung C&T Construction Innovation Tech Fair, which was held at Raemian Gallery of Munjeong-dong, Songpa-gu, from November 9 to 13.
This year’s Samsung C&T Construction Innovation Tech Fair under the slogan of “Open Innovation, the start of convergence and connection” was held to not only share consensus on the ever-changing AEC Business and the New Normal era, but also to propose a direction of technology convergence and connection.
In the exhibition booth, SAMOO presented changes of the design paradigm where the subject of design is shifted from a human being to computing technology, and addressed the current situation and prospect of automation in architectural design.
Beyond mere presentation and lists of technology, SAMOO produced the relevant contents focusing on delivery of message expressed in the context of technology development.
In line with non-face-to-face era, messages are delivered through developers’ personal interview clips of the regarding technologies to capture their vivid facial expression and voice.
Theme 1: Data Driven Design
Data-driven design refers to a method where design is created by computing technology and not by conventional design process. In the course of producing the SAMOO booth, experiment was carried out to transform designing into generating, and this small pilot project confirmed infinite possibilities. The future where a variety of design beyond human imagination comes true is drawing near.
Theme 2: Design Automation Now
BIM design automation tool and DB automating simple repetitive tasks such as modeling and mapping are applied for the current BIM design of SAMOO. Also, individual automation application technology are being utilized, such as climate data platform which analyzes real-time climate data to deduce and report climate response strategies, and new FAB layout automation tool, which proposes zoning alternatives and size of support zone to automatically design new FAB. In the near future, this will evolve into a single integrated automation solution.
Theme 3: Design Automation’s Future
SAMOO successfully completed development of an urban data analysis platform, a program that accepts and visualizes Big Data with autonomy such as the information on regulations and land price. This platform allows a wide range of services of provision of information regarding sites and commercial areas for clients from the initial stage of project. Based on this, we plan to develop AI-based design automation integration solution by programming design methodology and facilitating learning of the accumulated design data through machine learning.
